Biography: The grenade and number on the cap shows that Captain Holmes was an officer in the 101st Fusiliers (formerly the 101st European Fusiliers of the Honourable East India Company) which in 1881 became the Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Captain Holmes reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Royal Dublin Fusiliers in 1888. It is likely he was on the Isle of Man with his garrison.
