Biography: Elgie Cregeen, of Mill Street, Castletown, was employed before the First World War by the Castletown Brewery Company. He joined the army in February 1916 and was serving with the 19th battalion King's Liverpool Regiment when he died. He was killed whilst on a night working party in October 1917 near Ypres in Belgium. At the time the padre of his battalion reported to his mother that he had been buried in a cemetery behind the lines, but his grave was subsequently lost, and he is now commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the missing.
