Biography: Stanley Cregeen grew up in Liverpool but his parents had formerly resided at Castletown. He joined the army in September 1914, enlisting in the South Lancashire Regiment. He proceeded on active service to the Salonika front, but was invalided home sick, probably with malaria. He recovered sufficiently to be posted to France, but was hospitalised again with a recurrence of disease. He subsequently returned to the front and was killed in action on 13 April 1918, aged 24. He is buried in the Messines Ridge British Cemetery, Belgium. (Image ref: PG/13743/37).
