Biography: William Simpson, of Hope Street, Castletown, was before the First World War a gardener employed at Lorne House by Surgeon-General Stevenson. He joined the army in June 1916, and spent two years at Salonika. In the final year of the war he was posted to France, and was killed in action serving with the 18th battalion King's Liverpool Regiment, on 10 October 1918. He is buried in Le Cateau Military Cemetery. (Image ref: PG/13743/42).
