Biography: John B.Gell was the son of Mr J.T.Gell, a butcher from Castletown. He was a former pupil at King William's College, and before the war was working in banking in London. He enlisted almost immediately upon the outbreak of war, in the Civil Service Rifles (part of the London Regiment). He was posted to France and was wounded at Festubert in 1915. After recovery, he was posted to Egypt, and subsequently returned to France, being killed on 23 September 1918. (Image ref: PG/13743/58).
