Biography: Age 24, Eric Hinton is a son of the famous Harry Hinton, and he is following in his father's tyremarks in no uncertain fashion! A toolmaker from Sydney, Australia, Eric competed until recently in "Clubman's" class racing in Australia, but in the 1955 New South Wales Junior Grand Prix he finished second to Dad, then went on to win the Senior race with Hinton senior in third place.

Towards the end of 1955 Eric pulled off a grand double by winning both Junior and Senior Australian TT titles - in a temperature of 92 in the shade! Before the 1956 TT he rode in several races on the continent and in Ireland. At Floreffe he was second in the 250 c.c. race, fifth in the "350" and sixth in the "500", whilst in the North West "200" he was second in the "250" and broke the lap record at 91.13 m.p.h.

In the 1956 Junior TT he was lying tenth when he came off at Ballaugh on the sixth lap and had to retire. In 1957, however, he was fifth in the same race at 90.65 m.p.h. and won a Silver Replica.

After the TT he went over to the Continent and was third in the Norisring Championship races (350 class) in Germany. Back home he won the 500 c.c. class of the Australian TT on 29th December, and in March, 1958, the 500 c.c. and Unlimited classes of the New South Wales TT. He started his "English Season" well by winning the 250 c.c. Championship race on Silverstone Saturday with his N.S.U.

In last year's TT races he was seventh in the Lightweight (250) with a Bronze replica and 11th in the Senior (Silver). He was third in both 350 and 500 c.c. classes of the East German Grand Prix.

Back home he won the 250 c.c. and Senior classes at Mount Druitt and the same classes at Ballarat, whilst he won the 250 c.c. and Junior classes of the Victoria G.P. and was second in the Senior. Last February he won the 250, Junior and Senior classes of the Australian TT at Longford, Tasmania.

He is entered by the A.C.C. of Australia for both races.
