Biography: Private Edwin Gick, of 34 Murray's Road, Douglas, was a tram driver prior to the First World War. He was called up for the army in December 1917 and posted to the Royal Marines. After service in England with the 1st Reserve Battalion, Royal Marine Light Infantry, in August 1918 he was posted to the 1st Royal Marine Battalion in France for active service. The Royal Marines formed part of the Royal Naval Division, originally formed from surplus naval reservists, but by 1918 consisting mainly of wartime recruits. (Image ref: PG/7870/38699/1).
