Thomas Mylchreest Sheard

Epithet: TT Rider 1920s: the first Manx TT winner

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Thomas Mylchreest Sheard was born in Dalby, Isle of Man in 1889. He was the son of an engineer, with a firm in Peel repairing engines for fishing boats.

Although he had competed in the TT races from 1913, Sheard became a local hero when he became the first Manx TT winner in 1922, winning the Junior TT in a record time on an AJS.

He followed this success by winning the 1923 Senior TT on a Douglas machine, but problems with machines supplied by AJS, New Hudson and Douglas meant that he never returned to his race winning form. He retired from racing after the 1925 TT and concentrated on his garage business in Victoria Road, Douglas.
