Scope & Content: A view of Victoria Street, notice the sundials on several shops on both sides of the street. If you look carefully on the right and beyond the clock can be seen the statue of Queen Victoria one floor up. She was carved by a firm of ships figurehead carvers of Liverpool and placed in the niche by Mr Doyle in his newly constructed ‘Victoria Bazaar’. At the end of the street on the left is the Villiers Hotel where the ground floor of part of the wing facing Victoria Street was converted into shops in the 1880s.
