Scope & Content: Contents include an invoice for the goods shipped on board at Liverpool for Annamaboo in April 1765, an account of expenditure in fitting out the vessel, a list of the crew who sailed and the wages due each man per month, the ledger style accounts of the slaving partners and a letter of instruction to Captain Kendall giving him directions in the purchase of slaves and delivery to Barbados and Jamaica
Administration / Biographical History: The Cerberus was a 250 ton ship with 4 guns and a crew of 30 men, including the captain, John Kendall. On 21 April 1765 she sailed from Liverpool for 400 slaves and succeeded in purchasing 350 slaves on the Gold Coast. The Cerberus arrived arrived at Jamaica with 270 slaves on 17 June 1766, over one fifth of the slaves having died during the Middle Passage. She sailed from Jamaica on 30 September with only 12 crew, arriving back in Liverpool on 1 December 1766 after 436 days. Her owners were the Liverpool merchants William Gregson, Jonathan Blundell, John Bridge, Thomas Kendall and Charles Pole. Blundell who held a 7/16th share offered Taubman part of his share in this voyage. It does not appear to have been a successful commercial venture.
