After demolition of 19 New Bond Street, Douglas
Date(s): n.d. [1932-1934]
Creator(s): Frowde, John James
Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'After demolition of 19 New Bond St. and the houses in Almshouse Lane (S. Side) at its rear - dead on view, first ever, of Nos 22 (with lamp) & 20 N. Bond St. With entry into Durie Lane and N. Gable of 'Durie House', No.6. This is masked by a wooden fence which fronts the site of the old Step-down Inn. Taken from the front of the old almshouses now left standing on their own, the S. Matthew's Wardens asking a price higher than the Corporation cares to pay. E. end of the old Grammar School shewing on R. with the sandstone slab with (eroded) coat of arms of the Athol family. Note the extensive outlet at rear of Durie House as seen in the 1866 survey. Later, the Almshouses, it seems, were devised [?] to S. Matthews & S. Barnabas , I think'.
