Scope & Content: This photograh shows the opening of the new Smylies store at Spring Vallery in Cooil Road, Douglas.
Smylies was originally in Derby Square in Douglas. It was really busy with the tourist trade delivering to all the hotels, cafes and restaurants. The team was led by Harry Heath (5th from the left in a suit) and his number two standing behind him was Chris Christopher (with the glasses). John Marsland (2nd right) next to him in glasses. Also in the photograph is George Saywell from the Lancashire Hotel, Santon; Jennifer Hall, hotelier, (4th left), who was chair of the hotel and guesthouse association. She cut the opening ribbon.
