Scope & Content: Parade in front of Douglas War Memorial. Lieutenant Governor Lord Granville salutes the memorial before the parade starts. The mayor of Douglas stands next to him. The parade consists of Royal Navy, then Wrens, soldiers, RAF personnel then veterans from the RBL. It may be an Armistice Day parade or it may be VE or VJ day.
Next we see a close up of Lord Granville with the Lord Bishop outside the Villa Marina. Red Cross nurses and police march past the camera.
After this the film announces the arrival of AVM Sir Geoffrey Bromet who became Lieut Governor in 1945. Bromet’s plane lands at Ronaldsway and a deputation is waiting to meet him. This includes a Royal Navy honour guard which Bromet inspects (Ronaldsway was still under the control of the Royal Navy as HMS Urley at this time). He is met by Lord Granville.
Dignitaries going into Castle Rushen. An Honour Guard of the Royal Navy is drawn up outside. Bromet reviews a police parade with the Chief Constable.
The arrival of Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery aboard a steam packet ship at Douglas. This took place in May 1948. Monty meets veterans outside the Villa Marina escorted by Bromet. Then Monty, Bromet & some children are seen in a garden.
Footage of Tynwald Day, with at the end the Sword of State being carried in front of Bromet.
