Scope & Content: Track 1: Mr and Mrs Allen and their son Philip of Thames Ditton talk to John Beckerson about their holidays in the Isle of Man from the 1940s onwards. John talks about his first visit to the island in the late 1920s; boarding house on the edge of Mooragh; sailing with his father; visiting father’s Manx family in Bride and staying with family in Andreas, St Judes; walking and exploring Ramsey; women at the pocket golf club; shooting rabbits with his cousin at Point of Ayre; Manx accent; working as a junior for Barclays bank; staying with relatives in St Bridgets (Bride).

Doreen talks about first visiting the Isle of Man in 1947 with her husband.

John talks about his aunt in Douglas married to Thomas Craine, general manager of Isle of Man Steam Packet Company; his father’s love of books in Manx dialect in particular T.E. Brown.

Doreen talks about staying at boarding house in Bradda Glen; staying at the Hydro Hotel, Port Erin with its ballroom; playing cricket on the beach; swimming; walks; Philip having scarlet fever on holiday and Nobles hospital; grass fire next to Hydro Hotel; holidays at Port Erin Hydro and Ramsey Hydro (later Grand Island); Isle of Man Music Festival.

Phillip talks about visiting the Isle of Man to research family history; Grand Hotel, Douglas; Yates Wine Lodge; staying in Booilushag Farm; Towers Hotel self-catering flats, Port Erin.

Track 2: They talk generally about their memories of family and holidays in the Isle of Man.
