Scope & Content: John Quilliam talks about how Malew got its name from Saint Lupus or Saint Luwa; how it is the largest parish in the sheading of Rushen with Castletown and Ballasalla; geographical size and the boundaries; how many English names were introduced including Red Gap, Red Meadow, Dunn River; royalty-derived place names such as Queen Street, Victoria Road, Elizabeth Rise, Alexander Road; ancient place names; origins of local surnames including Kinnish, Kermode, Gelling, Cretney, Kinrade.

He tells a story about a farmer's wife who while churning with a horse-drawn mechanism forgot to disconnect the horse, the cream was scattered all over the dairy and Charlie the horse was never trusted again!
