Isle of Man Bank, Port St Mary

Date(s): c.1900

Place made: Port St Mary

Scope & Content: Looking brand new is the Isle of Man Banking Company’s building in Port St Mary. The book ‘Sixty Years of Banking’ published by the Isle of Man Bank in 1925 tells that a branch of the bank was established in Port St Mary in 1874 but it is unlikely that this was this building. It was built c.1900 by Henry Collister, builder of Port st Mary. Look at the street lamp which has a metal frame at the top but no lamp. This is possibly because the lamps were bray lamps with an oil burner set behind a glass box.
