Scope & Content: Marjorie Inman talks to John Beckerson about her holidays in the Isle of Man. Marjorie talks about her first trip on 28 June 1933 for a fortnight’s honeymoon in The Towers hotel, Port Erin; boat from Liverpool to Douglas and the train to Port Erin; hotel food; bathing in the sea at Port Erin; walking to Spanish head and Bradda Head; plaice spawning; watching the sunset; playing tennis; Collinson’s café; walking to Cregneash and Spanish Armada rumour about Cregneash villagers; island coach trip; boat trip to the Calf of Man; Thrift shop; theatre (summer production); dances in hotels.

She talks about her childhood holidays in Scarborough, Whitby, Bridlington, Bournemouth and the Isle of Man; Isle of Man holiday in 1945 with husband and son after the Second World War staying at the Waverley, Port Erin (The Towers unfit after use by internees); Waverley owners, Rev. Claude and Olive McFee; sight-seeing by motorcar; going to museums; hotel rooms; rationed food; Manx kippers; annual holiday at the Waverley; Olive McFee's sister; most visitors from Leeds staying in Douglas horse trams; travel by boat (Liverpool and Heysham) and aeroplane (Leeds, Holyhead); opinion of island as unique, beautiful and friendly.
