Scope & Content: The service starts with the congregation (accompanied by organ) singing the harvest hymn, ‘Come, ye thankful people, come’ (Henry Alford, 1844); prayers led by preacher Ronnie Corrin; hymn, ‘We plough the fields, and scatter’ [recording interrupted]; harvest reading by the preacher; hymn, ‘We thank thee, Lord, for this fair earth’ (G.E.L. Cotton); hymn, ‘Bringing in the sheaves’ (Knowles Shaw, 1874) during collection for the chapel flooring; announcement about Agneash and Glen Maye harvest services, and other chapel services; prayers; hymn, ‘Now the year is crowned with blessing’ (E.T. Fowler); harvest reading; sermon which mentions the excellent harvest, especially grain, grass this year except for the North of the island in Jurby and Andreas; red campion flowers on the island; [interruption to recording]; 1888 map that features Kerrowkeil and farms; importance of remembering previous farming and farmers around Kerrowkeil; short poem about farming; hymn, ‘Hear us, O Lord, from heaven Thy dwelling place’ (T.H. Gill); prayers and the Farewell Blessing followed by organ music and chatter of congregation leaving.
