Lifeboat House, Parade St, Douglas

Date(s): 1932-1934

Creator(s): Frowde, John James

Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'The quaint old 'Lifeboat House', Parade St. Note the large dormer on roof, used as a look-out over the bay. There is another, serving a similar purpose, in the roof of the house next St Barnabas Church towards Victoria St. This latter is still known to folk in the vicinity as 'Look-out-house'. I was invited by the lady occupier to go up and inspect this. Being accessible by a ladder, above the attics on fourth floor, I had to defer the pleasure, but regretfully. There was nothing to obstruct the view seaward early on from either of these 'look-outs' in the Parade, or Fort St'.
