Date(s): late 19th century

Creator(s): unknown

Scope & Content: Depiction of a boating incident at Douglas Head, possibly an accident which took place in late August or early September 1888. A boat was wrecked off the coast and two of the daughters of Ingram, the lighthouse keeper, set out with Ingram and John Milne. Together they rescued three of the men by climbing down the cliffs and putting themselves in danger of drowning themselves due to the rough sea and big waves. The women helped save three of the six men and were described as 'the Grace Darlings of Douglas Head'.

The lighthouse keeper and his daughters are my ancestors. I have the certificate awarded to Margaret Lee Ingram from the Royal Humane Society. Do you by any chance sell copies of the print as I would love to have one to go with my certificate. - Cathy Peet Report this
