Scope & Content: The diary begins with a retrospective summary of most of the years between 1811-1883: a mixture of snippets from newspapers, weather conditions, social commentary, events and sailings to and from the Isle of Man. Moore includes newspaper extracts for insular calendar events 1881-1883 and some hand written entries with newspaper extracts. From 1884 onward the diary entries are more descriptive of Moore's activities. such as on 2 July 1887 'a pleasant excursion with E.B. Savage and Prof. Rhys, we went first to Lonan Old Church, where E.B.S. had found a curious stone scratched partly with ogams' and 4 November 1887, 'lecture by PMC Kermode on runes in Cronkbourne Schoolroom'. The diary includes personal information about Moore's family: 'April 10 1888 the baby was christened privately in the Cronkbourne drawing room by the archdeacon, being called Helena Christian'. Some entries concern Moore's political work in Tynwald.

Administration / Biographical History: Moore was born on 6 February 1853 at Cronkbourne, Tromode, the son of William Fine Moore and Hannah, nee Curwen. He was privately schooled in Douglas, a preparatory school in Weybridge, Surrey and Rugby and then went up to Trinity College, Cambridge. He gained his Masters degree in 1876. In 1887 he married Louisa Wynn Hughes-Games who bore him Arthur, Helen, Margery and William (born and died 1894). Moore began his working life at Moore's sailcloth factory, Tromode and founded the Cronkbourne Cricket Club for the male workers at the factory. He; became a JP in 1877, was made Captain of the Parish of Onchan in 1885 and elected to the House of Keys representing Middle sheading, being elected to the position of Speaker in 1898. He died on 12 November 1909 at the age of 56 and his remains were buried at Braddan churchyard.
