'Museums, Memories and History or "What do Museums Actually do with Oral History?" '

Date(s): 1997

Creator(s): Hendon, Zoe

Scope & Content: MA Museum Studies dissertation submitted to the University of Leicester. Studies the Manx Folk Life Survey resources at the Manx Museum (Manx National Heritage). In her own words, 'Chapter One offers an overview of the creation of the Folk Life Survey arguing that it is necessary to understand the circumstances of the collection's formation in order to begin to understand the way memory can be related to history. Chapter Two looks more closely at the Folk Life Survey and at the idealised view of the past which it presents. Chapter Three offers some concluding thoughts on the nature of the relationship between history and memory, and on the question of interpretative authority (page 11)'.
