First World War internee theatrical production, theatre, Knockaloe Camp, Isle of Man
Date(s): ?1918
Scope & Content: This would appear to be the cast of Der Liebe Augustin which was performed at Knockaloe 1918. The actor extreme right hand side is Paul Kaiser who appears in other images in this series in the same costume.
Lager Zeitung 9 May 1918 carries a review of this production: "Putting on L.Fall's operetta Der Liebe Augustin in a prison camp, with excellent principals including the leading ladies, would strike anyone on the outside as an impossible undertaking. So all respect to Messrs Ulbrich, Kaiser and Heber for all they have presented to the camp in numerous productions. Mr Gerald found his feet after an evening or two in the role of the Princess Haughty; Messrs Kaiser, Lux, Froelich, Jablonowsky, Gawlich, Linder, Kruger, the officers, ladies in waiting, servants, and the assembled court offered evocative, colourful and lively scenes, and the Heber Ensemble performed Fall's music with energy and brio."
