Scope & Content: The identification of Gerhard Niehorster is based upon the prisoner number 25039 which is marked upon the glass plate, and comparison with the repatriation and hospital lists on the ICRC website. His Red Cross information bureau number was 11854. He arrived at Knockaloe 6/7/1916. He was transferred to North Camp, Ripon on 10/3/1919. He appears on a November 1914 list of prisoners age 28, home address 2 Marchmont Crescent, Edinburgh. Place of birth: St Vit, Wiedenbruck. He appears on the 1911 census as a cook, living at 17 Douglas Grove, Chorlton upon Medlock, Manchester, age 27 [? sic] place of birth: St Vit, Westphalia, Germany. He was apparently living with his employer, a German restaurateur. He does not appear on the 1921 Census.
