Scope & Content: The identification of Friedrich Sommerkamp is based upon the prisoner number 29520 which appears on the glass plate and comparison with the repatriation records which appear on the ICRC website. His Red Cross information bureau number was 24179. Re-interned 4/10/17. DOB 28/5/97 age 20. NOK: Otto Sommerkamp, Albrechtsstr 7a, Lichterfelde W3, Berlin.
From Ancestry: born 28/5/1897. Marriage 1925 spouse Maria Emilie Erika Graehner [Graebner?]. Married at Lichterfelde Berlin. Occupation: Kaufmann [businessman] & Doktor der Philosophie. Died 1 May 1938, place of death: Kuhlbach.
FO 383/74 (TNA) contains a proposal that Sommerkamp, then at Lofthouse Park, be exchanged for British subject Nevile Montagu Butler held in Berlin. He appears to have gained his PhD in Berlin in 1924, with thesis "Sir Walter Scott's English und Deutsche Belesenheit".
