'Solway Harvester' moored in Douglas Outer Harbour

Date(s): 2007

Scope & Content: Solway Harvester, Ballantrae. The hull of the ship, the bridge and part of the main mast are covered in rust and barnacles on this ex-fishing boat which sunk off the northern coast of the Isle of Man. It was later refloated by the Isle of Man Government. The Manx government paid for the boat to be brought up from the sea bed, as several young lives had perished when she went down and the families of the young men wished to bury their relatives on land and also hold an inquest into the reason for the ship sinking. The harbor entrance and many other fishing vessels are clearly visible in this view.
