Administration / Biographical History: In October 2017 Mr Brendan O'Friel of Port St Mary wrote to the museum as a result of the Manx Tholtans exhibition in which this image was displayed. Mr O'Friel tells us that "this family line produced an MHK for Ayre, Robert Cowley (1847-1906) and a First Deemster, Sir Percy Cowley (1886-1958)." He goes on to say "some of the Cowley family material reached the museum through the foresight of my late great aunt Dot Cowley of Ramsey...the photo was taken on the road outside the house in Sulby. It appears that the Cowley family - while owning Crammag - spread down to Sulby during the nineteenth century."
