Administration / Biographical History: The project was an environmental impact assessment of a planning application for a landfill site at Arrasey on behalf of SLR Consulting Limited. It entailed a desk-top survey and preliminary site walk over.

The desktop survey of the study area concluded that no sites were recorded in the Manx Museum’s National Monuments Record (NMR). None were identified by the site walkover.

The report raised concerns that the surveys may have been compromised by afforestation and the discrete nature of possible sites. The wider area of which the study area forms a part is known to be an important Neolithic landscape containing a range of evidence for Neolithic activity such as quartz mounds, areas of possible settlement and monumental survival.

It was suggested that all structural remains, including field boundaries located within the landfill area should be recorded and that a watching brief should be undertaken during site clearance.
