Christmas cards featuring Isle of Man scenes designed by Lt Governor John Paul and signed by his wife and himself

Scope & Content: Predominantly showing an historical view taken from other artwork on the rear side and a modern representation of the same view on the front of each card, the exception is Government House which features only the modern view for the 1974 card. The 1973 card features a view of Castletown harbour and Castle Rushen with a copy of an 1832 print on the reverse while the 1975 card features a view from Douglas Head with a copy of an 1825 print on the reverse. 1976's design features Peel Castle from Peel Hill (with a copy of a corresponding 1656 print), 1977 features Laxey wheel (with the opening of the wheel in 1854 on the reverse) and 1979 features Tynwald Day with a view in 979 on the reverse.

Administration / Biographical History: Sir John Warburton Paul GCMG OBE MC (29 March 1916 – 31 March 2004) was a British colonial administrator and civil servant, who most notably served as the final Governor of the Gambia (1962–1965) and Governor of the Bahamas (1972–1973) prior to both of those countries achieving independence from the United Kingdom. Paul also served as the first Governor-General of the Gambia from 1965 to 1966, the Governor of British Honduras from 1966 to 1972, the first Governor-General of the Bahamas in 1973 and the Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man from 1974 to 1980.
