Women employed herring processing or 'fish girls' captured washing down their aprons, Port St Mary

Scope & Content: Whilst the fishing boats lie at anchor in Port St Mary harbour the fish girls wash down their aprons, to get rid of the fishscales. The girls worked in teams of three, two gutters and one packer who could clean about 1,000 herring an hour many of which were exported to Russia and Germany.
