Scope & Content: Ernie Leece and John Molyneux completed 10 of the 12 laps of the 1969 Southern 100 Sidecar Championship race, which was won by C. Freeman.

Ernie Leece competed at the 1964 Manx Grand Prix (MGP) and the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) between 1968 and 1972. John Molyneaux was an experienced sidecar passenger. He competed 12 times in the TT between 1968 and 1977, taking third place with Ernie Leece in 1970. In 1975 Molyneux became passenger to John Oates.

Oates and Molyneux lost their lives as a result of an accident which happened during the 1977 Ulster Grand Prix.

Dave Molyneux, son of John is the most successful Sidecar competitor at the TT.

Prior to 1954 the Southern Motorcycle Club held their race meetings at Andreas Airfield. In the 1950s the Castletown Bypass was built - this now forms an integral part of the Southern 100 course of 4.25 miles. The first Southern 100 Race was held in July 1955.
