174 Artistic Views of the Isle of Man with Map and Guide
Publication date : 1927
Notes: The image is titled 'Show Ground, Onchan Head' taken from Artistic Views of the Isle of Man published in 1927. This was twenty years after the area was first used for entertainment purposes. The first construction on the site was for the Torreadors. Next a pavillion for indoor entertainment was added and this was later used for roller-skating. Soon small stalls for hoopla, magnetic fish etc were added. It wasn't long before permanent rides appeared and some of these were the most advanced in the UK. Onchan Head became a great draw for holidaymakers and daytrippers. When the area became more developed the owners on their headed paper had the slogan: The White City of the Isle of Man. This turned into the title White City for the Fun Fair.
