Cotton Striped Quilt

Date made: early 20th century

Maker: Member of Cowin or Creggan Family

Description: A cotton patchwork quilt made of blue and red stripes. The blue cotton fabric has a pattern of small white spots whilst the red has large white spots. The fabrics are possibly from an apron or blouse.

The quilt is backed with several widths of white cotton and hand-quilted in a zig-zag pattern using white cotton thread. Two straight lines of quilting act as binding round all sides. The quilt does not contain any wadding.

The quilt was originally owned by a member of the Cowin family of Ronaldsway or the Creggans of Malew and was used by the donor to cover furniture when moving house.
