Castletown calcareous conglomerate

Description: Poorly sorted; matrix of medium-grained limestone grainstone (occasionally sparry) with granules to pebbles of milky vein quartz up to 3cm long. Clasts are well rounded. Pale grey. Original description says it is from the transition beds between the Carboniferous basement conglomerate and the lower (Castletown) limestone. No red staining is apparent and the clasts are almost solely of quartz, with rare grey siltstone clasts. Possibly a basal transgressive lag.
