Biography: Edward Connock from Castletown had spent twelve years in the British army before emigrating to Australia. In 1914 he volunteered to join the 10th battalion Australian Imperial Force, and served at Gallipoli. Later he served in France and Belgium, and was killed in action during the Third Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele) on 1 October 1917. He is now commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial to the missing at Ypres. (Image ref: PG/13743/67).
