Record type: First World War Biographies
Biography: Banks Mawson of Douglas was a motor lorry driver before the First World War. In 1914 he volunteered to join the Army Service Corps, where his skills were in demand, as relatively few men could drive at this time. He reached France before Christmas 1914, and his duties would have involved driving lorries loaded with ammunition and other supplies from rail heads to dumps near the front line. Later, he was transferred to the East Yorkshire Regiment, and was wounded in action. (Image ref: PG/14477/2).
