Charlie Bruce

Biography: Age 42, Charles Bruce is a clerk, and comes from Motherwell, Lanarkshire. He has not ridden in the T.T. recently, but he did so as long ago as 1952, finishing 12th in the Lightweight race. He rode in the same event the following year, but retired and he has not "been with us" since.

Now he returns with a 248 c.c. Velocette, of which he gives the following details: " Twin o.h.c. 68 x 68.25 Velocette engine made in 1956 by Doug. Beasley-bought in 1958-developed since then. Velocette gearbox. Frame by Joe Potts-Reynolds 531 tubing. Front forks-Norton (shortened) - Norton front brake. B.S.A. alloy full-width rear hub.

Charles has been very successful at short circuit meetings. Last year he won races at Charterhall and Edzell and had four wins at Errol, ending up with the Scottish 250 c.c. Championship, and this year he has already won races at Errol, Charterhall and Kirkcaldy. (TT Special, 13 June 1960, p.16.)

Lightweight - Velocette

Age 34, a local authority clerk from Holytown, Motherwell, Chas Bruce has raced with success in his native Scotland during the past two seasons. In 1950 he won the 250 c.c. Speed Championship at St. Andrews and the Lightweight Kirkcaldy Road Race. Then in 1951 he was first home at Errol Aerodrome, Perth; Crimond Aerodrome, Aberdeen; Winfold Circuit, Aberdeen; and in the One Mile Race at St. Andrews. He was second at Kirkcaldy too.

His machine is a 1946 ex W.D. Model M.A.F. 349 c.c. Velocette reduced to 248 c.c. and fitted with rear springing by Roland Pike. It is home tuned.
