Bert Fruin

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Mount: 125 c.c. – Fruin Special.

Age 45, Herbert Fruin is a cycle shop proprietor, and comes from Hillingdon, Middlesex. He rides a most interesting double-knocker machine of his own construction.

An interesting point in connection with Fruin’s early racing experience is that he took part in speedway racing at Greenford, Middlesex, in 1929 – using a belt-drive B.R.S. model Norton!

In 1954 he rode his E.M.C. in the 125 c.c. event, but failed to finish the course, being overtaken by the “Roads Open” car on the final lap, and he was again a last lap retirement in the 1955 125 c.c.
Good fortune in T.T. races so far has escaped him. In the 1956 125 c.c. event, on his fourth lap, engine trouble developed and he retired.

If it’s any consolation to Fruin, he wasn’t the only rider to pack in – in fact, only nine finished!

In his spare time he is a saxophonist, and singer with a dance band.
(TT Special, 5 June 1957, p.12.)
