Biography: Age 32, motor engineer, of Ipswich. Came into the limelight last year when he won the Clubman's Lightweight on an Excelsior at 64.93 m.p.h., this being his first road race. Was third in the Hutchinson "100" at Dunholme the following October, and has ridden at Cadwell Park, Haddenham, etc.

Hobby: Playing drums in dance bands.

Age 33, a motor cycle engineer, of Ipswich, Lockwood has been competing in trials, scrambles, grass track events etc., since 1935.

His first big road race was the Lightweight Clubman’s T.T. of 1948 which he won at 64.93 m.p.h. on an Excelsior. Before the event he heard his mount described as “the scruffiest machine in the race”, but, as he says, “looks don’t count.”

Later in the season he was third on the “Hutchinson 100” at Dunholme.

Last year he turned “international” and rode a Norton in the Junior T.T. On the last morning of practice he crashed at Waterworks Corner (for explanation see “T.T. Tales”!) and injured his face.

He was able to ride, however, and finished 48th at 74.92 m.p.h., winning a second-class replica.

He was able to ride, however, and finished 48th at 74.92 m.p.h., winning a second-class replica. In the 1950 Junior T.T. he gained a second-class replica when he finished 24th at a speed of 78.31 m.p.h.

He also competed with some success at several Short Circuit events during 1950; sustained a fractured skull at Boreham in September, but less than a month later rode at Silverstone. It was discovered afterwards that he was still suffering from a broken lower part of the neck!

His machine is a 7R A.J.S. increased to 358 for the Senior. He is his own entrant.
