Mick Mooney

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Mount: Junior – A.J.S.

Age 36, a building contractor, of Belfast, Michael Mooney has had no racing successes so far, but has had quite a bit of experience. In 1949, his first road race was the Cookstown “100,” in which he crashed in the first lap and did not ride again until the Ulster Grand Prix. In this event he rode a Velocette which he actually purchased on the last practice eventing before the race itself. He was put out of the event, however, by a nail in the rear tyre on the seventh lap. Four weeks later he rode the same machine in the Carrowdore “100” and got a finishers’ award. His machine is a new 7 R Model.
