Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Age 30. James Alan Oliver is a (production) planning engineer, and comes from Bagington, Coventry. He has competed in trials and rallies since 1954 with a number of successes, and turned to racing in 1958, riding in the Thruxton "500" and various B.M.C.R.C. events at Mallory Park and Silverstone. Last year he was 47th in the Senior Manx, at 79.82 m.p h. In this year's Thruxton "500", he tells us that he had to retire at about half distance, because "the dentist called and pinched all the teeth off the clutch sprocket." His machine is a 1960 Gold Star modified for racing. Hobbies: "Various according to how I feel."
(TT Special, 7 September 1961, p.10).
