Jenny Tinmouth

Epithet: TT’s Fastest Woman

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Jenny Tinmouth is the fastest woman around the TT. She broke the world record for the fastest female lap on her TT debut in 2009. The following year she broke it again with an average lap speed of 119.945mph. Jenny was awarded theSusan Jenness Trophy for most meritorious TT performance by a female competitor in 2009 and 2010.

Being first by going fast is a thing Jenny does best. She was the first woman to enter and qualify to race in the British 125gp Championship, the British Supersport and Supersport Cup Championships and the British Superbike Championship.

This year Jenny was signed by the Honda Racing British Superbike Team in a life-changing deal. After years supporting herself and working alone on her bike Jenny now has a team of mechanics. “It’s a very big operation. It takes a lot of burden off my shoulders so it’s really good because I can just think about riding, I don’t have to think about anything else.”

How do her male competitors react if she beats them? “It’s not a problem. I remember one race I had, the first time I had four points in the British Championship, I finished 10th. This guy was right on my tail the entire race – he saw me hold on to my slide at one of the corners and I beat him. Afterwards he came over, shook my hand and said well done. I’ll never forget that. It’s something you always want, to gain the respect of your
competitors.”
