Biography: Junior - Norton

Age 30, David Tutty, started racing at Cadwell Park in 1948 with a 250 c.c. Excelsior. A fitter from Scawby, Brigg, Lincs, he has ridden a MK. VIII Velocette fro Gordon L. Sewell, of Scunthorpe, since 1950 with successes at Scarborough and Brough mainly. At Scarborough in 1951 he was third in the 350 c.c. final, and eighth in the final of the 500 c.c. event at the July meeting. In the September International meeting he was fifth in the 350 c.c. race.

At the Brough 1952 Easter races he finished second in the 350 c.c. final, and was fourth in the Unlimited Class over 25 laps on a Junior machine. In the 1952 Junior T.T. he rode his Velocette into 21st place at 79.87 m.p.h., and won a bronze replica.

He won his Heat in the 350 c.c. class of the 1952 July Scarborough meeting, and made fastest 350 lap of the day, whilst in the September meeting he again won his Heat and was sixth in the Final. In the Hutchinson “100” at Silverstone, soon after, he was first in the 10-lap 350 c.c. race and won the Rickard Trophy.

At the 1953 Easter Brough meeting he was second to Ken Kavanagh in the 350 c.c. seven-lap race, having led the field at the half-way mark. He also won his Heat in the 1,000 c.c. class, and was fifth in the final - on a 350 c.c. machine. He retired in the 1953 Junior T.T. on his fourth lap. Riding a Norton, he was 19th in the 1954 Junior T.T. winning a silver replica.
