Willie Wilshere

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Senior - Norton

Age 49, Willie Wilshere comes from Watford, and describes himself as “Office (Old) Boy at Scammell Lorries”. He has turned to the International race this year at rather an unusual age, but he is far from being a stranger to the Island, having competed regularly in the Clubman’s races since 1948, his wasp-striped helmet being a familiar sight around the course.

His reason for changing his status is that “You get more (7 laps) for your money, so to speak!” The Norton is a 1952 “Feather-bed”, ex-Eric Pantlin, and Willie has already ridden it at Silverstone this season. His previous Island outings have been on Tiger 100 Triumphs, and on such a machine he was 15th in the 1954 Senior Clubman’s event.
(TT Special, 10 June 1955, p.25.)

Age 44; last year described his occupation as “assistant office boy” but this year has been promoted to “office boy.” He was tenth in the 1947 Junior Clubman’s and entered again in 1948, his entry being refused. Last year, however, he rode again and was 22nd in the Junior. Machine: 3T Triumph. Hobbies: “Assisting large son with model aeroplanes.”

Entered by Chalfonts and Amersham A.C.
