Biography: Age 32, Edward Terence Young is in the welding and general engineering business, and comes from Cheshunt, Herts. He has had previous experience of the Clypse Circuit for he drive a Triumph in the 1954 Sidecar race and finished 15th. He has also had heat wins and scored places in finals at Brands Hatch, Gadwell Park, Crystal Palace and Kirkby Mallory.

His ETY Triumph outfit is now in its fourth season; it is mostly home made including the sidecar - and had worn well, having been dropped only once. "I copied the kneeling position from Eric Oliver," he writes "and liked it straight away." Owing to lack of room on top of the bike the fuel tank is in the chair and petrol is drawn by an AC, mechanical pump to to a one pint header tank, the float chamber of course, being gravity fed. "The Triumph engine is absolutely standard." Young continues "In 1956 I started in 65 races and finished in all except two of them - and then it wasnt engine trouble. the only replacements I made were two sets of valve springs."

Last year he was seventh in the Sidecar TT, winning a Silver Replica, and later in the season won Sidecar, Scratch and Handicap races at Aintree, Brand's Hatch and Kirkby Mallory. He is entered by Fred Warnell (Motors) Ltd. Hobbies: Opera and country walks.

Ted Young was my Father, he died when I was 5. I still have the two trophies he won in the 1957 & 58 TT, as well as lots of photos. It is wonderful to read this biography of him. - Jillian Ward Report this
