Age 22, Jimmy Buchan comes from Perth, Scotland, and is a newspaper reporter. He first became recognised as a "star of the future" when he won the 1955 Junior Clubman's race over the Clypse Circuit.

The following September he was fourth in the Junior Manx and second in the Senior race two days later; and in September 1956 he did the "Manx double", winning the Junior at 88.54 m.p.h. and the Senior at 90.83. He has also had successes at many Scottish meetings and in reliability trials. He was third in the 350 c.c. class of the recent North-West "200," at 87.76 m.p.h.

Jimmy's father, Jack Buchan, was himself well-known in the "Manx" and won replicas in 1933 and '34. Jimmy writes; "Father is President of the Perth and District M.C.C. which, like the T.T., celebrates its Golden Jubilee this season. Jimmy is entered for this year’s T.T. races by Denis Parkinson, and both his machines are 1957 models.
