Age 33, Ben Denton comes from Bradford, and is an electrical contractor. Well known in the North, he has had numerous successes on the short circuits, particularly at Esholt, Altcar, Scarborough, Cadwell, and Oulton Park.
Riding a B.S.A. in the 1954 Senior Clubman’s race, he was second at 85.68 m.p.h., while on his first appearance in the Manx Grand Prix – in that September’s Senior event – he brought the B.S.A. into eighth place. He has also turned out on a Gilera “Saturno” in various short-circuit events, and the 350 c.c. B.S.A. he used for last year’s Junior T.T. was fitted with an 8-inch Gilera-type front brake. On his machine he was 38th while in the Senior on a Norton he finished in 45th position.
