Biography: Mount: Junior – A.J.S.
Age 38; motor cycle agent and engineer, of Kingskerwell, Newton Abbott, Fred Hawken has had many successes in the West Country in short-circuit road racing, trials, hill climbs, etc. In his first M.G.P. – 1946 - he finished ninth, and then, riding an Excelsior in the Lightweight “Manx” of the following year, he finished second at 68.91 m.p.h. Was running third in the 1948 Lightweight T.T. when he had to retire on the last lap at Ballaugh.
Last year he rode a Velocette in the Junior and an Excelsior in the Lightweight, but was unlucky in both, retiring in the third lap of the Junior and the fifth lap of the Lightweight.
