Neville Jones
Record type: Motorsport Biographies
Biography: Mount: Junior—Norton
Age 25, N. R. Jones is an assistant chemist, and comes from Feltham, Middlesex.
He began racing on a 1949 model Bantam, which he bought second-hand in 1950. It was his very first machine, and he rode it in a trial before he had had it a fortnight! At the end of the year it was stripped and altered for racing in a few ways, and during the 1951 season it brought him to the finish in various events, with some fifth, sixth and seventh places.
During the winter it was modified a lot more, and the 1952 results were much better—a first and second at Warminster, a first and third at Brands Hatch, and a second at Boreham. The carburetor size has risen from 5-8 in. touring type to 1 in. T.T. model—and the speed has jumped from 45 m.p.h. when first purchased to around the 75 mark to-day. He was second on this machine in the 125 c.c. class at Warminster in May 1953, and one month later rode it in the Ultra-Lightweight T.T. finishing in 12th place—the only British machine to complete the course.
Hobbies—Amateur radio and ballroom dancing.
