Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Age 31, Frederick Alan Rutherford is a machine-tool estimator from West Ham, London. He was co-winner of the 1956 Thruxton Nine Hours race, and in the course of the past six seasons he has built up a very respectable reputation - including ninth place in the 1954 Senior Manx on a 350 cc AJS, riding a Norton. Alan was ninth again in the 1955 Senior. In 1956 he was fifth in the Junior but only completed four laps in the Senior. He won replicas in both last year's races, finishing 12th in the Junior and fourth in the Senior, only just over three minutes behind the winner, Alan Holmes. Both his machines for this year's races are the property of Geoff Duke.
